Captain Smit Machchhar, a Mumbai-born pilot with flydubai, was widely praised after he resisted an attack by his co-pilot on Dubai–Tel Aviv flight FZ1073 on September 30, 2026. He was stabbed during the struggle but helped prevent a disaster. Leaders including President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu called him a hero, and the Gujarat government announced it would honour him with the "Visisht Gujarat Garima Award". Amid this wave of praise, a video began circulating that claimed the Burj Khalifa had lit up with his picture, showing him in a cap and spectacles with a tricolour-themed backdrop. PTI Fact Check found the video is not real. An AI-detection tool flagged 99% of it as AI-generated, and no credible reports show any such display on the Burj Khalifa. Even feel-good stories about real heroes are often embellished with AI-made visuals, so such content should be checked before being shared.
