CCTV footage showing a priest being beaten inside a temple is being shared on social media with the claim that the attacker was a father taking revenge for the alleged molestation of his minor daughter. PTI Fact Check found that the video is real but the claim attached to it is false. Media reports show the incident took place in a temple in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where assailants kicked and punched the priest following an argument over the volume of devotional music being played at the temple. There was no allegation of molestation in the case. Pairing a genuine video with an invented, emotionally charged backstory is a common misinformation tactic. Here it falsely accuses the victim of a serious crime, which is why such claims should be checked against credible news reports before being shared.
