Fact-checkers traced the viral footage to a video posted on October 21, 2026, by the Facebook page Manipur Articles, which carries its manipurarticles.com watermark. The clip shows hundreds of men and women marching at night along a lit road holding flaming torches, a common form of protest in Manipur. Banners in the procession include a “Down Down BJP” slogan, which points to a local political protest. The original post presents it as a demonstration within Manipur. Nothing in the footage suggests an armed uprising, a separatist revolt or violence against the state. Protest rallies have been a regular feature of public life in Manipur amid its prolonged unrest, and recasting such demonstrations as evidence that India is “losing control” of the region, as Pakistan-linked handles have recently tried, is misleading. A video’s original source and context should be checked before it is shared.
